What Customers Say About Singing for Dummies:

|
As an online vocal tutor, I sometimes refer to this book as I find it useful for singers who are just beginning to find out about their voice, and how it is affected by posture. I like the fact that the book deals with the techniques and mechanics of singing and also touches upon vocal range and even performance anxiety. A very good all round book. Chip Jenkins[.].
Let me just say that this is a great book, packed with great information(all the for dummies book series are good books really),it even has a cd inside with vocal excercises, and i found this book to be very helpful. Now with that being said let me tell you something else,GET SINGING LESSONS.Do Not go and buy this book to subsitute it for singing lessons. It is great to get a singing book but make shure you are taking singing lessons. And if you are already taking singing lessons then talk to you're music teacher and ask you're music teacher if it is ok for you to do the excercise in this book.Because some vocal excercies may damage you're voice,if you're voice is not ready yet or if you are a beginer.
Singing for Dummies is not a bad book but I don't like the way the author explains everything because she/he makes singing an impossible thing to do and the book is super long. I have been singing for the past 2 years. I've bought many books but in my opinion, I would buy the book by Roger Love called Set Your Voice Free. Roger Love's book is not that long and it gives you straight forward facts and details on singing for all levels of singers. It also brings a CD so you can practice with the book.I prefer Roger Love's Book than this book but nonetheless, this book is pretty good but it is too long. Goodluck.
Although there is some factual info that one can learn from, the book is very boring to read. This book only places focus on singing in one style which is the style of singing they tried to teach you in high school chorus class. There is no contempory point of view such as Rock singing and all in all I think there are much better books out there. Mark Baxter's book is much more informative and is much more to fun to read.
This book is a great overview of singing for the beginner. (Not that singers are Dummies) When starting off without a teacher it is great to pull from as many resources as possible to get a feel for correct singing. Check Out: Vocalize.
